David Sidoo: A Trailblazer in Canadian Football
Born in New Westminster, BC, David Sidoo’s football journey began with humble roots, leading to a UBC scholarship in 1978. As a UBC Thunderbird, he helped secure the 1982 Vanier Cup championship.
In 1983, he made history as the first South Asian in the CFL, playing six seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders and BC Lions. His success broke barriers, inspiring diversity in Canadian sports and motivating young athletes to dream big

David Sidoo’s journey is a powerful example of using success to create meaningful change. As the first South Asian in the CFL and a successful entrepreneur, David has always been driven by a desire to give back. Inspired by the support and mentorship he received while growing up, he and his family founded the Sidoo Family Giving Foundation.
The Sidoo Family Giving Foundation empowers youth through sports, education, and health initiatives. Rooted in the values of “time, talent, and treasure,” the foundation provides scholarships, camps, and mentorship to underprivileged youth. Guided by a belief that true success is measured by how we uplift others, the Sidoo family’s work is creating lasting impact for future generations.
At Sidoo Sports, our mission is to empower youth by providing mentorship, scholarships, and life-changing opportunities in sports and education. We are dedicated to breaking down barriers and ensuring that every child, regardless of background, has the chance to succeed and thrive. Through initiatives like Kids Play Soccer Camps, Supra Academy, The Showtime Football Camp, The East End Boys Club, and Action Innocence, we are committed to creating a brighter, more inclusive future for the next generation of leaders.
